Physician assistants certification

Effective Jan. 2, 2008, physician assistants must certify to the director of the Department of Consumer & Business Services that they have reviewed and read certain informational material provided by the Workers' Compensation Division, before they treat any patients with Oregon workers' compensation claims.

If you have not certified to the director and treat a patient with an Oregon workers' compensation claim on or after Jan. 2, 2008, the insurer will not have to pay for the services you provided.

The required materials include:

Physician Assistants guide to Oregon on-the-job injuries

An introduction to the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's disability prevention guidelines titled, "Preventing Needless Work Disability by Helping People Stay Employed"

The Employer-at-Injury Program (return to work) information

After you have read the above materials, please complete the "Statement of Certification" online form.

To order a complete packet of the informational materials, available after Oct. 15, 2007, please contact WCD's publication specialist, Robert Salvo at
